School Psychologist

The role of the School Psychologist is to apply expertise in mental health, learning, and behavior to support the success of students academically, socially, behaviorally, and emotionally. The School Psychologist partners with families, teachers, school administrators, and other professionals to create safe, healthy, and supportive learning environments that strengthen connections between home, school, and the community. The School Psychologist identifies and assesses the learning, development, and adjustment characteristics and needs of individuals and groups, as well as, the environmental factors that affect learning and adjustment. S/he provides interventions to students to support the teaching process and to maximize learning and adjustment. S/he assists in the planning, development, and evaluation of programs to meet identified learning and adjustment needs. S/he delivers a planned and coordinated program of psychological services.

Qualifications:

– Completion of Master’s degree or higher in school psychology approved by the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP), including an advanced practicum of 1,200 hours, 600 of which must be in a school setting
– Possession of MA DESE School Psychologist License or possess the requirements for Licensure in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts (applicants possessing a license in School Psychology from other states will be considered)
– Demonstrates an understanding of and an affinity for the mission of BFCCPS
– Ability to work collaboratively with school leadership and special education faculty and staff to ensure that all students’ needs are met
– Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
– Compassion and empathy for students and families; Ability to create a positive, warm, and achievement-oriented environment based on high expectations that engages, encourages and motivates students
– Professionalism and ability to maintain confidential information
