Who we are.
KIPP (Knowledge Is Power Program) is a national network of free, open-enrollment, college-preparatory public schools with a track record of preparing students in underserved communities for success in college and in life. There are currently 141 KIPP schools in 20 states and the District of Columbia serving over 50,000 students. Eighty-seven percent of our students are from low-income families and eligible for the federal free or reduced price meals program, and more than ninety five percent are African American or Latino.
Today, KIPP Massachusetts serves over 800 students in our three schools in Boston and Lynn and over 200 alumni in our KIPP Through College Program which supports students on their journey “to and through college.”In 2014, KIPP: MA will open our first elementary school in Boston and will expand all three of our existing schools to serve more students.By 2020 we plan to serve over 2,500 students in six schools in Lynn and Boston, MA.
What we do & why it matters.
KIPP builds a partnership among parents, students, and teachers that puts learning first. By providing outstanding educators, more time in school learning, and a strong culture of achievement, we are focused on helping all of our students climb the mountain to college. Nationally, more than 90 percent of KIPP middle school alumni have graduated high school, and more than 80 percent of KIPP alumni have gone on to college. By 2015, over 10,000 KIPPsters will be attending colleges throughout the country.
KIPP Academy Lynn Collegiate High School (Lynn, MA): founded in 2011, will serve grades 9-12 in 2014-15
KIPP Academy Lynn Collegiate is growing to serve 12th grade students next year and is increasing the number of students served in grades 9-11. We are searching for an aide to join our special education team in the 2014-2015 school year. Our Special Education team works with teachers, leaders, and families to ensure that we are serving the kids who need us and to make our belief that all kids can and will learn live every day in our schools.
Overview of the Position:
The Special Education Aide will work closely with a student who has an Individualized Education Plan and needs additional support to meet his or her learning goals within the classroom, one-on-one, and in small group pull-out sessions, with an emphasis on teaching life skills. The Special Education Team works closely with teachers, leaders, and families to meet the needs of their KIPPsters. This position may also include networking with local businesses to establish off-campus internships for the student. Flexibility, creativity, collaboration, and patience are key character strengths for this role.
Qualified candidates have:
Experience working with children and adolescents, preferably in an educational capacity and ideally as an instructional aide or special educations support staff member
Associate’s degree required; Bachelor’s degree preferred
Relentless determination to do whatever it takes to help our students succeed
A belief in the mission and values of KIPP
Demonstrated commitment to raising the achievement levels of traditionally under-served students is highly preferred

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
The position of Special Education Aide is an exempt, full time, 12 month, salaried position. Minimal traveling to/from sites outside of Lynn, MA or to our Boston location for meetings may be required. KIPP MA is an employment at-will organization. Work schedule will be determined by the Principal and/or hiring manager.
