BackgroundSince the first school opened its doors in 1995, charter public schools have been expanding educational choice for parents and academic opportunity for their children. Our founders are teachers, community leaders and parents, who commit themselves to achieving a core mission that all children can succeed academically no matter their background. Many of our schools integrate academics with social services and health care programs to ensure that every student will have a solid educational foundation and the skills they will need to succeed in life. Charter public schools as closing the achievement gap between poor minority students and affluent white students. Our students are mostly low-income, Black and Latino, and most of them are several grade levels behind academically when they enroll. But, our schools provide them with the same educational advantages as their peers in the suburbs. On statewide assessment tests, many of our urban schools rank among the best in the entire state. What's more, many of our high schools are sending nearly every one of their students to college. Our goal is to partner with local school districts to devise innovative ways to educate our children and replicate these success stories across the state. Charter schools have become part of Massachusetts' comprehensive and successful approach to public education and we look forward to the future. |
