Children who live in underserved and low income communities in school districts that are considered to be “underperforming” by state standards are most affected. Data proves that charter public school students perform better on standardized tests and have overall higher educational performance than their peers in the traditional schools in their district. Doesn’t every parent want the best for their child?
Unfortunately, tens of thousands of students are waiting in line because their community has hit its cap on charter schools. Boston, Holyoke and Fall River are among the hardest hit communities, but others will follow unless the cap is lifted.
Please send a letter to your elected officials and ask them to urge the joint Committee on Education to release the Lift the Cap bill, favorably, before the March 19th deadline.
