The demand for a charter school in the Springfield area is at an all time high. Families looking to enroll their children came out to the Mass Mutual Center on Saturday afternoon, to the first annual charter public school showcase.

Families in attendance were able to fill out an enrollment form for a 2015 lottery. Demand for a local charter school has increased in Western Mass communities over recent years. Charter schools are typically known for having long school days, academic rigor and college prep. Many students who have made the change from public school to a charter school say they have seen an improvement in themselves. “It really has changed my perspective on learning. It makes me just want to push myself and not give up.” says Briannea Miranda. Miranda previously attended public school and says she enjoys the charter school environment. “Its not that I didn’t like public schools… but it just wasn’t for me. I don’t like the big environment, I like the small environment.” Miranda added.

Event organizers say they hope that in the future, district schools will start to adapt to charter practices so all children can have access to its type of education.
