STATEMENT BY BETH ANDERSON, PRESIDENT, AND THABITI BROWN, VICE PRESIDENT, OF THE MASSACHUSETTS CHARTER PUBLIC SCHOOL ASSOCIATION REGARDING MYSTIC VALLEY CHARTER SCHOOL DRESS CODE POLICIES

“The policy and enforcement actions by the administration at Mystic Valley run counter to everything we - as parents, as educators, as Association board members - stand for and teach in our schools. Our schools celebrate diversity and respect cultural differences. We nurture our students to learn from each other. Our doors are open to all families. These values are ingrained in our culture. The Association disavows Mystic Valley’s discriminatory policy and its decision to punish students who express their cultural heritage.”

Beth Anderson is President and CEO of Phoenix Charter Academy Network, which operates three schools in Chelsea, Lawrence and Springfield; Thabiti Brown is the Head of School at Codman Academy Charter Public School in Dorchester.
